Local School Leadership Council

What is the Local School Leadership Council (LSLC)?

The Local School Leadership Council (LSLC) is a shared decision-making body composed of elected parents, community members, school personnel, and the Student Body President and Vice President (students in Leadership). The LSLC works cooperatively to make decisions in these areas of the school program:

· School Calendar

· Professional development schedule

· Budget for instructional materials

· Student discipline guidelines, including the dress code

· Guidance for school equipment rentals, such as copy machines

LSLC History

The Local School Leadership Council (LSLC) program was created in 1989, responding to teacher demands for schools to have more local control. The Council allows parents, teachers, and other school staff members to contribute to planning that affects their school.

NOMINATION FOR COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVES

We invite you to participate in our school’s decision-making process by joining the Local School Leadership Council at Maxine Waters EPC. This council leads important initiatives that directly affect our students and school community, including:

● Staff Development Program (PD).

● Student Discipline Guidelines and Code of Conduct.

● School Activities, Events, Special Schedules, and Bell Schedule.

● Instructional Materials Accounts.

● School-wide Equipment Usage.

Your participation is essential to our school’s success, and we encourage you to consider a position on the council. Four seats are available for community representatives, and all adults in the LAUSD school district are eligible to self-nominate.

We are moving from one-year to two-year terms to ensure continuity and smooth operation. This year, the two candidates with the most votes will serve two years, while the remaining members will serve one year. In next year’s election, those serving one-year terms can run for two-year terms if they choose to continue on the council. After next year, all members will hold two-year terms, with elections staggered so that half of the council is elected each year, ensuring consistency and ongoing leadership.

The council will meet monthly at a time and location that respects your other commitments, making it convenient for all members. Elections will occur during a public meeting on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 12:15 pm. (You do not need to be present at the meeting to be elected.) If interested, please complete the attached form and return it to the school office by Friday, January 31, 2025. Once your nomination form is received and approved, a member of the election committee will reach out to discuss the next steps. Nomination forms were distributed in the teacher boxes.
